Kick Back and Relax
What’s the best way to get from Porto to Newcastle? A business class seat on a KLM flight seems like the perfect option to me. This was our first time flying KLM and I was so impressed. Lean back, enjoy the leg and elbow room, it’s going to be a good flight.
On our plane, a Boeing 737-700, the business class is at the front (no first class) with rows of three seats on either side of the middle aisle. The middle seat in each row has been converted into a side table giving each passenger more elbow room and a place for your newspapers or drinks to hang out.
They Don’t Want You To Be Hungry
On our short trip we were served lunch, a “light snack”, and tea with cookies. Not only were we fed often, the food was really good. I don’t mean airplane food good. It was delicious!
So what did we have for lunch?
- Starter: Chilled asparagus salad with sprouts and tuna.
- Entree: Cheese ravioli with pesto, olives, artichokes, and tomato sauce.
- Cheese Course: Cheddar and blue cheese (both Dutch) with dried Medjool dates.
- Dessert: Fruit trifle with a crunchy crumble and delicate honey sauce.
The light snack was chicken kabab on salad with pickled vegetables, chilled potato salad, warm roll, and a chocolate mousse with toffee bites for dessert. Our flight attendant was very passionate about the desserts and he knows what he’s talking about. Both desserts were great!
The best part of the flight was the service. In addition to the excellent food, we were offered newspapers and had several nice chats with our flight attendant. (He convinced us we need to visit Amsterdam!) The extra attention the KLM staff paid to providing the best customer service truly made the flight a special experience.
