While Joel is in London paying his respects to the Queen (more on that next week!) I am back home in glorious Austin. Maybe you find yourself passing through our beautiful city this summer and the most pressing question you’re asking yourself is,

“Where should I go for the match?”

Excellent question! Today I’m going to give you five very different options.

Austin is a city with no major sports team (we’re all crossing our fingers for an MLS team), but every weekend morning during the Premier League season you will see countless watering holes open early and many a sleepy but devoted fan walking in for a breakfast Guinness, handshakes with the lads, and a few chants and songs. The Euros and the World Cup are a big deal here. The flags and bunting have been up for about a month and pubs, breweries, and restaurants are all catering for the biggest sporting event in the world.

Lazarus Brewing

Neighborhood: East Side
Vibe: Bustling brewery with tacos and coffee, too. Lots of indoor and outdoor space.
What to expect: They’re showing all the matches, specials during the matches, and the chance to win beer for life! (More info.)

Nickel City

Neighborhood: Rosewood
Vibe: A dive bar with a lot to brag about.
What to expect: Friendly staff and lots of locals. Drink specials and ice cold a/c. Braggadocios Delray Cafe food truck will be open for normal hours. (More info.)

Nickel City World Cup

Neighborhood: Cherrywood
Vibe: A sprawling, hip sports bar with a Midwestern menu.
What to expect: Always a popular spot with soccer fans. Expect a lot of people, cheese curds, drink specials, and a great atmosphere. (More info.)

La Matta

Neighborhood: East side, a few blocks west of Lazarus Brewing
Vibe: Well-designed sandwich shop living the dolce vida.
What to expect: Delicious food, smaller crowds, specials, and a bracket competition. (More info.)

June’s All Day

Neighborhood: So. Congress
Vibe: French chic. A good spot if you want a quiet place to enjoy the match on your own.
What to expect: Small tv. Grab a seat at the end of the bar during an early morning match and enjoy the delicious breakfast menu. (More info.)

In Austin, you’ll find yourself spoiled for choice when it comes to soccer viewing opportunities.
